Hommage à Michelangelo
The stamps I used in making this picture arrived from Italy too. I used to stare at them featuring Works of Michelangelo many times already before but I did not have enough pieces of them earlier to use. I was caught by the colours of the stamps and also by the fact that Michelangelo was one of the greatest artists of the renassaince and also one of the most known artists of the history ever. One of his most important sculptures was David of Florence but I have not seen this sculpture in Florence yet. But when we met Pope Francis in Vatican, we had also the opportunity to see Michelangelo’s „Pietà” in the Saint Peter’s Basilica featuring the scene of mourning for Jesus just taken from the crucifix. We visited of course Sistine Chapel as well, the ceiling fresco of which was painted by Michelangelo. This work of his is known everywhere in the world. The fresco of an area of 540 m2, which is the largest in the world of this kind, is a unique tableau of the persons and occurrences of the Old Testament. In the course of my research work I found the layout of the fresco showing the position of the whole picture. This layout was prepared by me on the picture by using many elements of this stamp series.
